Sportec SP750 with 750HP based on the Porsche 911 GT2

The latest product to come out of Sportec’s workhouse in Switzerland is called the SP750 and it’s based on the 911 GT2 (997). With the SP750, the Porsche 997 GT2’s standard 3.6-liter bi-turbo engine’s output has been improved by about 220 HP The massive increase in power has been achieved through the modified turbochargers and titanium con rods, sports camshafts, a reprogramming of the control unit as well as larger charge-air intercoolers. Sportec claims that the SP750 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes a mere 3.2 seconds (standard GT2: 3.7 sec) while the top speed lies somewhere beyond 350 km/h or 218 mph (standard GT2: 329 km/h or 205 mph). -Continued

To further improve driving dynamics, Sportec offers a set of 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 245/30 ZR20 tires up front and 325/25 ZR20 at the back along with the installation of a reinforced sports clutch. Sportec’s version of the GT2 can also be customised with aluminium pedals, floor mats, instrument dials and leather or alcantara applications.

2009 Porsche 911 Targa Facelift – Official Photos and Details

The covers are off the revised glass-roofed Porsche 911 Targa that will make its way into the market this autumn. As with the rest of the facelifted 911 range, the most important news is under the bonnet as the Targa, which is only available with four-wheel-drive, gets two new power units with direct fuel injection. More specifically, the Targa 4 is powered by a 3.6-litre flat-six developing 345 Hp (+20 Hp) giving the car a top speed of 284 km/h while the 911 Targa 4S gets a 3.8-litre unit developing 385 Hp (+30 Hp) that can accelerate it on to a top speed of 297 km/h.

Like the rest of the revised 911s, the new Targa 4 and 4S are available for the first time with Porsche’s new 7-speed double-clutch gearbox. With the dual-clutch gearbox the 3.6-litre Targa 4 accelerates to 62mph (100km/h) in exactly 5.0 secs (manual: 5.2 secs) while the Targa 4S, in 4.7 secs (manual 4.9 secs). -Continued

The visual highlight of the 911 Targa remains the 1.54-square metre glass roof that’s made up of two segments, the sliding roof above the occupants and the top-hinged tailgate.

As with the second generation 911 models series overall, the 2009 911 Targa models are distinguished by the subtle design changes of the nose and tail and the use of LED daytime driving lights. Like the four-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4 and 4S models, the Targa 4 and 4S also get a 44mm, or 1.73”, wider rear-end along with a new reflective trim that spans the width between the LED rear lights.

Porsche 911 Targa Facelift Scooped Undisguised

It’s just a matter of weeks before Porsche unveils the third derivative of its recently facelifted 911 series, the 997 Targa. The guys over at Car Magazine videotaped their first encounter with the recently revised Porsche 911 Carrera 2 S (see wallpape gallery here). Hamann Porsche 911 Turbo Stallion with 630Hp & 359km/h Top Speed

The Porsche 911 Turbo Based Stallion is the latest development to come out from the German tuning house Hamann Motorsports. The thoroughbred is equipped with a modified version of the 911 Turbo’s twin turbocharged 3.6-liter boxer engine producing an impressive 630Hp (from 480Hp). The result is a staggering 3.3 seconds for the 0-100km/h (62 mph) sprint which is six tenths of a second faster than its serial counterpart while its top speed is a whopping 359 km/h or 223 MPH.

Of course, Hamann couldn’t resist upgrading the 911 Turbo’s appearance. The Stallion’s most prominent features are of course its gull-wing doors and the chopped roofline that has been lowered by 80mm or 3.4-inches. Moreover, Hamann added an aggressive bodykit combined with 20-inch rims in 245/30ZR20 tires in front and 325/25ZR20 tires at the back. -Continued

2009 Porsche Carrera 4 Revealed: New Electronically Controlled All-Wheel Drive

As if Porsche needed the extra exposure, three weeks after the unveiling of the redesigned rear-wheel-drive 911 Carrera models, the German sports carmaker released details on the all-wheel-drive versions Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, both of which are available in Coupe and Cabriolet forms.

Leaving the aesthetic and engine/gearbox changes aside as they’re the same with the RWD Carrera, the new generation Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S get an electronically controlled PTM Porsche Traction Management which replaces the former all-wheel drive with its viscous multiple-plate clutch. This system was initially developed for the 911 Turbo and modified for the Carrera 4 models. -Continued

Porsche says that depending on the model, the new all-wheel-drive Carrera offers up to 8.5% more power, up to 12.9% more fuel economy, and 15.4% lower CO2 emissions. Specifically, output of the Carrera 4’s 3.6-litre power unit is up by 20 to 345Hp. When combined with the new dual-clutch semi auto gearbox PDK, the Coupe features an average consumption of 10.1lt of fuel per 100km, equal to 28.0 mpg imp.

Likewise, the improvements on the 911 Carrera 4S with its 3.8-litre power unit are equally important, with maximum output up by 30 to 385Hp on overall fuel consumption down in the case of Carrera 4S Cabriolet with the PDK gearbox to 10.7 litres/100 km or 26.4 mpg imp. All all-wheel-drive Carrera models will be available at Porsche dealerships from October 25, 2008.

Porsche Customers Say “Nein” to Start-Stop Technology

While Porsche fans welcome technologies like direct injection and dual-clutch gearboxes that help improve among other things, the new 911 Carrera’s green credentials, they don’t seem as keen when it comes to other systems like “Start-and-Stop”. Talking with Porsche engineers at the press launch of the 2009 911, Car Magazine learned that while a Start-Stop system was considered for the facelifted model, the sports carmaker’s clientele put a brake on the use of such a system. -Continued

The company’s engineers told Car that if they had fitted the facelifted 911 with a BMW-style start-stop system it would have reduced a further 10g/km from the Carrera’s 225g/km CO2 emissions. Apparently, Porsche fans will take all the green technology the German sports carmaker can offer them as long it also improves performance and/or dynamics.
