Corvette C6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Caught in Hot Action

A previous generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan and a Corvette C6 Convertible left their cultural differences aside and got a bit too intimate in Southern California. There’s no information concerning the ‘accident’ other than it occurred at the corner of Skyline and Foothill roads in Ventura County on September 5 and that no one was hurt. Luckily, both parties involved in this embarrassing scene were wearing rubbers so don’t expect to see any weird looking junior Corcedes or Mervettes running around in California any time soon. -Continued

Video: Hyundai Genesis Gets 5-Star Ratings in NHTSA’s Crash Tests

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded five-star crash test ratings to the 2009 Genesis for both frontal and side-impact crash tests, providing yet another helpful selling point to Hyundai's first venture into the luxury car segment. “These five-star results are just one indication of the dedication Hyundai engineers place on safety,” commented John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America’s vice president of Strategic Planning and Product Development. Video: Fast & Furious 4 Trailer in HD

The first trailer of the Fast & Furious 4 movie which opens next summer on June 5, 2009, has hit the web. The fourth installment of the high-octane series reunites Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez who once again get behind the wheels of a series of souped-up cars (for reasons that probably no one really cares) including the new Subaru Impreza WRX STi hatchback (see pics here), the Dodge Challenger, the Buick Grand National and a few Mitsubishi Lancer EVOs and Nissan Skylines. Bentley Continental GT Coupe in Russia Takes a Field Trip

Audi R8 Test Drive Goes Down with a Splash – Yep, it’s a Total Loss

Αs if accident-prone supercar owners weren’t enough of a hazard, we now have to deal with test drivers. And when we say test drivers, we don’t mean the professional sort but your everyday Joe who decides to take a supercar for a spin or in the case of the 33-year-old man from The Netherlands, for a catastrophic plunge. According to reports from the Dutch press, the 33-year-old man whose name hasn’t been released yet took the brand-new Audi R8 for a test drive near the town of Woerdense Verlaat when he suddenly lost control of the 420HP mid-engined supercar and ditched it into a river bank.

Luckily, no one got hurt but the Audi R8 that costs a staggering €157,630 or $232,500 in The Netherlands is considered a total loss. The Dutch press reported that while the speed limit on the particular road is 80 km/h or 50 mph, the R8 driver said he was going about 130 km/h or 80 mph. Unconfirmed reports say that he might have been going as fast as 200 km/h or 125 mph. Of course speed alone doesn’t (fully) justify the accident. According to the Dutch police, the accident may have been caused by a bump on the road at the point where the driver of the R8 lost control of the vehicle. -More images after the jump

Video: How to Destroy a Car Wash Machine

We’ve watched this video a dozen times but we still can’t figure out why the driver in the light blue Citroen C3 stamped on the gas pedal crashing and ultimately, destroying the automatic car wash machine. Maybe the C3 was equipped with Citroen’s quirky Sensodrive semi-automatic transmission and the driver wasn’t accustomed with the clutchless gearbox. Who knows. What we do know is that the man with the hat in front of the car was one lucky son of a gun. -Video after the jump

Video: Gumball 2008 Lamborghini Driver Blamed for Accident that was Caught on Tape

A traffic accident involving a Ford Excursion with a large trailer that occurred on Sunday, August 10th on the I-5 South highway in California was caught on tape by one of the Gumball 3000 drivers. According to the initial SigAlert report, the Gumball driver of the black Lamborghini caused (without explaining how) the Ford Excursion to loose control, spin and finally flip over.

This is one of those videos that you watch again and again to see if you can make ends meet. We saw the video more than 15 times, and in our opinion, we can’t see how the Lamborghini was involved in the accident. Maybe it was another vehicle in front of the Lambo or perhaps even the driver of the Ford is at fault –we honestly can’t say. Either way, we hope that no one was seriously injured because the accident looked pretty scary. Check out the video after the jump and tell us what you think. -Continued

Update: Hertz Corvette Driver Says he wasn’t at Fault

A couple of weeks ago we posted an article on a rental Hertz Corvette ZHZ that slammed into the sidewalls of a restaurant in Dallas -see here. Based on what Fox News had reported then, we said that the driver lost control of the vehicle. Today however, the driver of the Vette, Joey, left us a comment in our post explaining that he didn’t simply “loose control of the vehicle” but was rammed from behind by a Ford F-150 that ran a stop sign. Well, it’s only fair that we let Joey explain the accident himself:

"According to the media, I “lost control of my vehicle” trying to avoid a wreck. In reality, a Ford F150 ran a stop sign trying to shoot across Lemmon and caught the tail end of my vehicle. I noticed we were going to collide just prior to impact and accelerated trying to get the hell out of the way. Clearly, that was unsuccessful. The truck came barrelling into my backend, knocking me into a crazy (thinking: “this is gonna hurt like hell”) spin — across oncoming traffic — and somehow landing backwards under the patio at La Madeleine on Lemmon Avenue."

Wedding Crashers in Britain Destroy Rental Lamborghini Gallardo Spider

Talk about the real wedding crashers; according to a report from The SUN, four Asian-looking men in their late 20s rented a fleet of supercars including three Lamborghinis and a Bentley Continental GT for a wedding but the celebrations didn’t last long as one of them totaled a Gallardo Spider.

The SUN reports that after the wedding reception the group of men went for a drink at The Cider House in Wooton, Shrops where they bragged about hiring the cars for £5,000 a piece for the weekend and how one of them took the supercar up to 160mph. After a few drinks the pals drove off but one of them lost control of the Gallardo Spider trashing it on a tree. The report states that the four men fled the scene before the police arrived. Funny thing is that one witness stated that people stood around the wrecked Spider taking bits off and sitting in it!

Ferrari Testarossa Goes Tree Hunting

We can’t explain it, but there’s something about supercar accidents that grasp our attention. This accident involving a bright red Ferrari Testarossa and a poor tree that either happened to cross its way or fell after a lightning strike, occurred somewhere in the city of Hague in The Netherlands. Video: BMW F1 Mechanic Gets Electro Shock

A member of the BMW Sauber F1 team received one hell of a shock when the squad’s test driver Christian Klien pulled into the pits in the modified F1.07C after a test run at Jerez. As soon as the mechanic touched the F1 car that was equipped with the experimental Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) he received an electric shock that knocked him off his feet –literally. Luckily, the mechanic didn’t sustain any serious injuries.

“During testing of the KERS car at the Jerez track this morning, there was an incident involving a mechanic,” a BMW Sauber spokesman explained. “When the car returned to the pits, he touched it and suffered an electric shock. He sustained slight injuries to his left hand and grazing on his left arm.” -Watch the video after the jump

Hertz Corvette ZHZ Driver Mistakes Diner for Drive-In

Just a little over a month after Hertz added the limited edition Corvette ZHZ to its Fun Collection line-up and we have the first casualty as a rental driver lost control of the 436 HP Vette at Lemmon Avenue in Dallas slamming it onto the sidewall of the La Madeleine restaurant. Now that had to hurt(z)...

As with the Mustang GT-H, the Corvette ZHZ is a limited edition model with only 500 units produced for Hertz. Finished in the rental company's yellow with a center black stripe, the ZHZ gets the optional dual-mode exhaust system the gives an extra 6HP to the standard 6.2-liter V8. Teen Obliterates Porsche Carrera GT During Prom Night

This wreck of a Porsche Carrera GT was snapped by a reader of our Jalopnik pals sitting on a truck cargo bed in an Atlanta-area parking lot. The driver of the truck that made a pit stop at the parking lot after bringing the car from Miami claimed the Carrera GT was destroyed by a teenage driver during prom night. Apparently some light headed dad thought that lending a powerful supercar like the Porsche Carrera GT to a teenage kid on prom night sounded like a really cool idea. Video: Audi Q7 vs Fiat 500 Crash Test from ADAC

Try to imagine what would happen if a large SUV like the Audi Q7 crashed into a small mini car like the Fiat 500. Not sure? Well, Germany’s automobile club ADAC performed a “David vs Goliath” crash test between the two cars, but unlike the biblical story, David aka the Fiat 500, did not even come close to winning this match.

The two cars collided head on at an average speed of 56 km/h (around 35mph). According to ADAC, whereas the driver and passengers of the Audi Q7 would have made it out of the crash with minor and non life-threatening injuries, the risk of serious injuries in the Fiat 500 was surprisingly high for both front and rear passengers. However despite what you may think, ADAC’s prime objective wasn’t to show that a large SUV is safer than a minicar but to point out that automakers should take smaller sized vehicles into consideration when they design a large size model. –Video after the jump
